House / Cat
ARTIST:
Juliana Tersa Scalise (b. 2004) is a Chicago-based artist working primarily in college and fiber processes. She is currently a BFA candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she is exploring experimental approaches to weaving and the natural dying process, as well as collage techniques and image transfers. Her work has been shown in artist collective cellophane, GoggleWorks art center. One of her first experiences in the art world that excited her into the tantalizing and ever expanding world of art administrations was the Amos Lemon Burkhart Foundation, a safe space that allowed the artist time and opportunity to explore and see the inner workings of a non-profit. This truly enthused her desires for community upliftment through the arts and has stuck with her through her time in the academic world. Her art practice now is heavily focused on learning that of ancient techniques and preserving craft traditions. To
hold space in the fine art world for these traditions.
ARTWORK:
Medium: Fibers (heat pressing with pen and colored pencil on muslin)
Size: 6" x 6" (unframed)
Description: A pink cat silhouette is overlaid onto the delicate drawing of a house. A house cat, or a cat house?
